He became a monk at El Syrian Monastery, and spent a probationary period from 25 February 1988 to 27 October 1990. In his way to the Monastery he spent four months at St. Bishoy Monastery, as was requested by Pope Shenouda to stay at St. Bishoy Monastery until new hermitages were built at St. Mary El Syrian Monastery, he was hosted during the four months by bishop Sarabamon abbot of the Monastery until El Syrian Monastery built the new hermitages. Bishop Thaoufelos tested him for monasticism. He served at St. George Church Kom Hamada before monasticism and was interested in clarification methods and projectors. His duties at the Monastery was study, research and publication of books. He became the monastery “Robieta” which is a title same as Monastery affairs Manager, Secretary, or deputy head who took over the duties of the abbot in his absence, he said that such duty was very sensitive especially when dealing with elderly fathers, when he would talk with them, respect them, listen to them and appreciate them. Of the most beautiful memories during the period he was the “Robieta” which was a period of two and a half years until his ordination as bishop, was his participation in organizing for the celebration held in 1999 for Father Faltaous El Syrian for his Golden Jubilee in Monasticism, and a year later the golden jubilee for his father of confession the departed Fr. Metaous , and that was in the presence of His Holiness Pope Shenouda, Archbishops and Bishops. His duties during monasticism were research in Coptic cultures, Ecclesiastical History and monastic life; and he had research on the history of vanished monasteries. He issued books for the Monastery of John the Kama and a book for the Monastery of John El Kaser, El Ahbash Monastery and Armenian Monastery. He also had archaeologist researches and traveled to the Netherlands year 2000 to participate in the International Coptic Conference.
