The importance of Agbeya prayers

Agbeya prayer is important and useful. It consists of psalms, gospel readings, and the absolution. For those who have practiced Agbeya prayer they know well its deep spiritual benefits, and St. Paul the Apostle says: “When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation”(1 cor 14:26)

From the Spiritual benefits of Agbeya prayer:

  1. Increasing being in the presence of God- Individual prayers lasts only for few minutes, because you won’t find much to say. However, Agebya prayers gives you more chance to stay longer in the presence of God with reach phrases to pray.
  2. Includes all kinds of prayers- individual prayers may be limited to requests or thanks, however agbeya prayer is a combination of all prayers, thanks, requests, recognition and praising and so on.
  3. It includes precious details for all requests –Agbeya prayer features precious details for all requests that can not be remembered during individual prayers, as:
    1. Thanksgiving: we thank God on everything, for the sake of everything and on all things.

Why: for He has covered us, helped us, guarded us, accepted us unto Him, spared us, supported us, and brought us to this hour.

  1. In Repentance: we ask God to absolve, forgive, and remit our transgressions; those which we have committed willingly and those we have committed unwillingly, those which we have committed knowingly and those which we have committed unknowingly, the hidden and manifest, If we have sinned in words or actions or thoughts or with any of our senses, Lord forgive us, for the sake of Your Holy name.
  2. In Conclusion of every hour: we pray for a group of requests, which would be difficult to remember all of it during individual prayers, as- Sanctify our spirits. Cleanse our bodies. Conduct our thoughts. Purify our intentions. Heal our diseases. Forgive our sins. Deliver us from every evil grief and distress of heart. Surround us by Your holy angels, that, by their camp, we may be guarded and guided

4. Its Prayers are according to the Will of God: Many people ask for requests that do not agree with the Will of God, and so they become rejected. These were referred to by James the Apostle “you ask and do not receive because you ask wrongly, so you can spend it on your passions” (James 4:3). However Agbeya prayers are all according to God’ Will.

Those who prayer Agbeya ensure that all their prayers are acceptable before God. St. John the Apostle taught us, saying: “if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” (1 John 5:14)

May God give us to pray acceptable prayers according to His will, Amen.
