Sermon on the general Resurrection and the punishment

By St. JohnChrysostom

May his saint benediction be with us? Amen

If you trust those who believe in stars calculations and others, when they talk about the second coming and the generalresurrection, what then, do you think about the word of your Lord that tells you: the world will pass, the resurrection will occur, the Judge will sit on the throne of justice, the angels will shout in such a way that the mountains will shake and the tough hearts will be broken.

Then the sun will become dark, the moon will not give its light, the stars will fall down, the tombs will be opened, the dead will be resurrected and the nations will be judged; faces of the just people will shine and the sadness of the sinners will appear.

In spite of all this, you are not afraid andyou continue to bend towards the distractions and lust. How strange it is, that there are people, who are certain of the coming of Christ in His glory and in His Father’s glory and are still negligent and indifferent about the salvation of their souls.

As for myself, I am tormented and I cry from the terror of that day, where all the nations and all the peoples will be gathered, where speaking tongs will be muted, where necks of the unfair ones will be enchained and, where the sadness and remorse of the sinners will be everywhere. At that time, neither money will be useful nor excuses will be accepted, and they will hear the King’s voice saying: Tie him by his hands and his legs, and throw him away in the dark place, with the sinners and the demons; hence, there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

If you acknowledge that this is how things happen, why are you still lazy and unconcerned about the salvation of your soul?

We must wake up from our sleep, get over our lethargy and prepare ourselves to this day, to be able to win the kingdom of our Lord.

All the glory is to Him, till eternity. Amen.

We conclude our father St. John Chrysostom’s sermon that has enlightened our minds and eyes of our hearts, in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
