Al-Ezbawia Ikon

Al-Ezbawia Icon

The archeological icon of Saint Mary is taken from the original image that was drawn by Saint Luke, who was a doctor in the first century. The original image was found in the monastery, after which it was transferred to the monastery’s headquarters, known as Al Ezbawia. It is a very popular icon, and it is known to all people as the icon of wonders.

In the icon, Saint Mary appears holding Jesus Christ. Under His legs sits Saint John the Baptist, about whom the Holy Bible mentioned, “Behold, I send My messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.” (Mark 01: 02). Behind him, there is a symbolic picture of a lamb.
